In my work, I juxtapose the flowing movement of organic forms with the structural integrity and complexity of human -made objects.

Abstract paintings are my current preoccupation. These works highlight what I see as the intersection of the natural landscape and the human-made environment. I appropriate, extract and abstract images and physical remnants from the world around me, both in what I represent on the canvas and the materials I use in the creation. In reverse archaeological order, I build works of “visual history” by creating multiple layers or generations of paint, found images and fabrics on the canvas.

My still life paintings derive from exercises in the unique painting style of the Italian painter, Giorgio Morandi (1890 – 1964) who painted the same vases and bottles over and over again with unique simplicity of execution. painting . still life
In my experimentation with printmaking, I have focused mostly on monoprints. Monoprints are generally regarded as the most painterly method among the printmaking techniques because no permanent plate is made, meaning no two prints are alike. The beauty of this medium to me is in its spontaneity and its combination of printmaking, painting and drawing. I love the opportunity monoprinting offers me to create multiple themes and variations, affording me less precise control over the outcome than in painting. print

Collography is a printmaking process in which materials are adhered to a rigid substrate to make a “plate.” This plate is then inked and pressed onto paper, either with hand tools or a printing press. What I enjoy about this particular process is that the plate is reusable, and I can play with how the application of color changes the outcome of the print and the resulting design. As in my painting, my plates incorporate found objects that appeal to me because of their form and texture.
